Arsenal football fans helped raise £3,154 for Haven House Children’s Hospice at a fundraising evening with former club vice-chairman David Dein.

More than 60 guests attended the event at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, Clerkenwell Green, Islington on Wednesday 20 April. David discussed a range of topics including Arsenal’s current 4th-placed standing in the Premier League.

The businessman joined the Arsenal Board in 1983 and served as vice-chairman until 2007. He was instrumental in the appointment of current Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger.

David told guests that no one was better placed than Wenger to lead Arsenal and that he had done more for the club than anyone else. He commended Wenger as Arsenal’s most successful manager in its history and praised his drive and determination.

David, a former vice-chairman of the FA, also talked about the introduction of Goal Line Technology and wider technological developments in world football. The former president of Arsenal Ladies Football Ladies Club said that women’s football had become the fastest growing sport in the UK with over a million women and girls now playing football each year.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are extremely grateful to David for taking part in Tuesday’s event for Haven House.

“Not only was it fascinating to hear David discuss an incredible range of football topics, but the evening raised vital funds for the hospice.

“Haven House provides an extensive range of services throughout the Borough of Islington – including our Toy Home Loan service. Community events such as our evening with David Dein means we can continue to provide these vital services for life-limited children and their families.”

David Dein said: “I was delighted to help raise funds for Haven House. The charity does phenomenal work for children and families in North London who are facing the most difficult circumstances. I would appeal for as many people as possible to help support Haven House as it seeks to care for more life-limited children in North London.”
